Brothers Osborne and rising Country Music stars Lauren Alaina and Dustin Lynch announced the final nominees for “The 51st Annual CMA Awards” Country Music’s Biggest Night live from New York’s Times Square back on Monday, Sept. 4 on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

Country music's "Biggest Night" powered ABC-TV to a huge win on Weds (11/8), thanks to its airing of "THE 51ST ANNUAL CMA AWARDS." THE CMAs dominated TV ratings on the night, attracting 14.3 million viewers, an increase of nearly two million from the 2016 CMAs (12.5 million total viewers). Additionally, the 2017 CMA Awards pulled a 3.3 rating - up from 2.9 last year - and a 12 share among the key TV demo of adults 18-49. Those numbers mark the biggest total audience for the awards since 2014, according to ZAP2IT.
Going into the awards Miranda Lambert led the pack of the 2017’s top nominees with a total of five nominations
Little Big Town and Keith Urban followed close behind with four nominations each.
Eric Church, Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, and Chris Stapleton also garnered three nominations each.
Brothers Osborne, Sam Hunt, Lady Antebellum, Old Dominion and Jon Pardi garnered two nominations.

 Garth Brooks retained his CMA Entertainer of the Year crown and holds the record for having the most wins for Entertainer with six (1991, 1992, 1997, 1998, 2016 & 2017). He has been nominated 33 times and has 13 wins

Chris Stapleton with FROM A ROOM: VOLUME 1 won the 2017 CMA Album of the Year which was something of a surprise beating out Miranda Lamberts heavily-tipped THE WEIGHT OF THESE WINGS 2-CD. Stapleton last won Album Of the Year in his breakout year of 2015 with TRAVELLER (Mercury Nashville).
Stapleton also bagged Male Vocalist of the Year for the third successive year (2015-2017). He has been nominated 14 times with 9 wins.
Taylor Swift won the 2017 CMA Song of the Year as the songwriter of Little Big Town’s No.1 Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay No.1 single “Better Man”. She last won a CMA Award in 2013 for both Music Video of the Year & Musical Event of the Year for “Highway Don't Care” (Tim McGraw with Taylor Swift & Keith Urban). She has been nominated 25 times and has 10 wins.

Keith Urban won the 2017 CMA Single of the Year for “Blue Ain’t Your Color” beating out Sam Hunt’s much fancied 34-week No.1 “Body Like A Back Road” (MCA Nashville; released Feb 2, 2017) which had sold 1,723,000 copies (dated Oct 14, 2017) and was certified 4× Platinum on October 16, 2017. By comparison Urban’s “Blue Ain’t Your Color” (released 8 Aug 2016; Capitol Nashville) had 12-weeks at No1 on Hot Country songs and had sold 1,101,000 copies (30/09/2017).
Keith last won a CMA award for Musical Event of the Year in 2015 with “Raise 'Em Up” (Keith Urban feat. Eric Church). He had previously been nominated for Single of the Year for “Better Life” (2006) & “Highway Don't Care” (2013; Big Machine Records). His first CMA award came in 2001 winning Horizon Award. He has been nominated 45 times and has 11 wins

Miranda Lambert won the 2017 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year for the seventh time (2010-2015; 2017). Other previous wins include Album of the Year (REVOLUTION  2010; PLATINUM; RCA Nashville 2014). She has been nominated 44 times and has 13 wins.
Jon Pardi won the 2017 CMA New Artist of the Year. It was his first CMA award having also been nominated for the 2017 Song & Single of the Year for “Dirt On My Boots” (Capitol Records Nashville / UMG Nashville)

Little Big Town won the 2017 CMA Vocal Group of the Year for the 6th year in a row (2012-2017). They have been nominated 26 times and have 8 wins.

Brothers Osborne retained the 2017 Vocal Duo of the Year (2016-2017) and also picked up Music Video of the Year for “It Ain’t My Fault” (during the ABC telecast). They have been nominated 5 times and have 3 wins.

The late Glen Campbell with Willie Nelson won the 2017 CMA Musical Event of the Year for “Funny How Time Slips Away”. His last CMA was in the same category, when he won for “Mendocino County Line” in 2002 with Lee Ann Womack, having missed out in 2015 with DJANGO AND JIMMIE (Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard).
His first CMA win came in 1976 for Album of the Year (WANTED--THE OUTLAWS – RCA). He has been nominated 47 times and has 10 wins.
Glen Campbell has been nominated 16 times and now has 3 wins others include Entertainer of the Year & Male Vocalist of the Year in1968.

Mac McAnally (Guitar) won the 2017 CMA Musician of the Year for the 9th time (2009-2015; 2017). He has been nominated 11 times and has 9 wins. Back in 2008 he missed winning Musician and Musical Event of the Year in 2009 with “Down The Road” (Kenny Chesney with Mac McAnally).

In claiming his ninth trophy, McAnally tied the mark set by Chet Atkins -- who was the winner in the previously-titled instrumentalist of the year category nine times from 1967 and 1988.

The CMA Awards nominees and winners are determined by more than 7,800 professional members of CMA, which was formed in 1958 and is the first trade organization established to promote an individual genre of music. Winners of “The 51st Annual CMA Awards,” which will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 8, will be determined in a final round of voting by eligible members of CMA. CMA Awards balloting is officiated by the professional services firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP.
“The 51st Annual CMA Awards” is a production of the Country Music Association. Robert Deaton is the Executive Producer and Gary Halvorson is the Director.

VOTING
Winners of "The 51st Annual CMA Awards" were determined in a final round of voting by eligible voting CMA members.
June 30
51st Annual CMA Awards FIRST ROUND VOTING closed at 6:00 p.m. CT on Thurs July 20, 2017.
The SECOND BALLOT took place between August 14 – 24, 2017 and the 51st Annual CMA Awards second round voting closed at 6:00 p.m. CT on Thurs August 24, 2017.
The THIRD AND FINAL BALLOT was emailed to CMA members Monday, Oct. 2, 2017. Voting for the CMA Awards final ballot ended
Wednesday, Oct. 25 (6:00 PM/CT). Ballots were tabulated by the professional services organization Deloitte & Touche LLP.

About the CMA Awards: The first “CMA Awards Banquet and Show” was held in 1967. The following year, the CMA Awards was broadcast for the first time – making it the longest running, annual music awards program on network television. The Awards have aired on ABC since 2006. ABC will be the network home of the CMA Awards and CMA’s other two television properties, “CMA Fest” and “CMA Country Christmas,” through 2021.

TRIBUTE: Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley noted recent events, paying tribute to those lives that were lost during the past few months, and saying that for the format, the best way to honor those was to play the music “loud and proud.” 

SKIT: Falling back on their annual CMA humorous skits Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump were the subjects they poked fun at, including a parody twist of Underwood’s smash “Before He Cheats” re-titled “Before He Tweets”.!
WHAT??!!!!: Cue those miniature “Barbie Dolls” once again but this time country royalty Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (previous monologue targets) surprised and turned the tables on their hosts with Paisley coming under fire to roars of laughter from the CMA audience.


Eric Church with “Amazing Grace” kicked things off a cappella in silhouette. Then an all-star group that included Kelsea Ballerini, Garth Brooks, Kix Brooks, Eric Church, Ronnie Dunn, Faith Hill, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Thomas Rhett, and Keith Urban joined in on Darius Rucker’s uplifting hit “Hold My Hand” (Hootie & The Blowfish song).

Dierks Bentley and Rascal Flatts performed a take on Montgomery Gentry’s “My Town” paying tribute to the late Troy Gentry. 
Brothers Osborne paid tribute to the late Don Williams with a boisterous take on one of his signature hits “Tulsa Time” followed by their current radio single “It Ain’t My Fault.”  
Little Big Town paid homage to the late Glen Campbell a barren version of “Wichita Lineman” joining them on keys was Jimmy Webb the prolific composer of numerous Campbell hits.

 Carrie Underwood paid tribute to the other Country Music-related personalities who died in the past year with a gorgeous, tearful and very moving version of “Softly and Tenderly,” played over a pictorial montage -- which also included the images of each of the 58 country music fans killed in Las Vegas mass shooting on Oct. 1.


Brad Paisley and Kane Brown performed Paisley’s song “Heaven South.”
Pop superstar P!nk delivered a poignant moment with “Barbies” a cut taken from her recent No.1 Billboard 200 album BEAUTIFUL TRAUMA.
1D’s Niall Horan and Maren Morris combined with a medley of her Top 10 hit “I Could Use A Love Song” and Nialls’ “Seeing Blind.”
Keith Urban showcased his new single “Female” inspired by the Harvey Weinstein news story.

New into the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Alan Jackson turned the clock back performing one of the superstars early hits “Chasin’ That Neon Rainbow.” 
The Queen CMA Female Vocalist Miranda Lambert chose to keep it traditional with “To Learn Her” lifted from her RIAA Platinum certified 2-CD and Album of the Year nominated THE WEIGHT OF THESE WINGS.
CMA favourite Chris Stapleton pleased the CMA throng with current single “Broken Halos.”
CMA Entertainer of Year Garth Brooks performed his current single “Ask Me How I Know.” In an update Brooks has since admitted he was lip syncing. Backstage he told reporters, “We made a game time call on whether to sing to a track or lip sync. And we decided to lip sync it. We decided to lip-sync it because my voice was just not there, and we wanted to represent country music the best we can.”

"The 51st Annual CMA Awards" were hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for a 10th consecutive year and broadcast live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Wednesday, Nov. 8 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) on the ABC Television Network.

BBC Music goes Country crazy
The BBC will be celebrating all things Country with programming on Radio 2 and BBC Four to celebrate the forthcoming 51st Country Music Association Awards 2017.
Bob Shennan, Director of BBC Radio and Music, says: “Each November, the Country music world congregates in Nashville to celebrate country music, so I’m delighted to give BBC listeners and viewers exclusive access to the awards show and hear from some of the genre’s most acclaimed stars.”

Legendary country music presenter Bob Harris (OBE) will present programmes for both BBC Radio 2 and BBC Four.
Bob Harris says: "The CMAs is the jewel in the country music crown, and once again, I’m excited to be visiting Tennessee to bring the best of Nashville to both Radio 2 listeners and BBC Four viewers."

CMA Awards Highlights 2017, presented by Bob Harris Saturday 11 November, 6-8pm: In addition to his weekly country music show Bob Harris Country each Thursday night from 7-8pm, Bob Harris will broadcasting live from Music Row in Nashville, presenting highlights from the CMAs.
The two hour show sees Bob present a round-up of the winners along with the live performances from the awards show
There will also be an appearance from Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and 16-time CMA Awards winner Alan Jackson (Awkward given the Radio 2 snub history).

BBC 4
For the first time in 10 years, Bob Harris presents highlights from the CMAs to be broadcast later in November. In a 1x60' programme produced by BBC Studios, Bob will introduce the hottest performances of the night, including some of the biggest names in Nashville, including Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert and Shania Twain, who performed in the UK for the first time in 13 years at Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park this year.
Jan Younghusband, Head of TV Commissioning, BBC Music says: "Music on BBC television is currently thriving, from Sounds Like Friday Night launching on BBC One next week, to Harry Styles at the BBC and Sam Smith at the BBC airing on BBC One next month. Every Friday night on BBC Four is a treasure trove of music programming, and it’s thrilling to welcome the CMAs back to BBC television after 10 years."
The BBC Four programming was commissioned by Jan Younghusband, Head of TV Commissioning, BBC Music and Cassian Harrison, Channel Editor, BBC Four. The executive producer is Mark Cooper, Head of Music, BBC Studios.
