Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of July 15, 2017)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

DJ Khaled landed his second No.1 album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart (BB200) as his latest release, GRATEFUL, made a bow atop the list. The set — which was released on June 23 through We the Best/Epic Records — earned 149,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 49,527 were in traditional album sales.
Grateful followed DJ Khaled’s first No.1, earned a little less than a year ago, when MAJOR KEY launched in the penthouse (on the list dated Aug. 20, 2016) with 95,000 units. Of that starting-week sum, 59,000 were in traditional album sales. (Notably, during Major Key’s first week of release, it was exclusively available to stream through Apple Music, and for sale as a download through the iTunes Store. Grateful, however, was widely available at all streaming services and retailers.)
At No.2 on the new Billboard 200, Imagine Dragons’ new EVOLVE arrived with 147,000 units and the biggest week of the year for a rock album. Its starting sum is the biggest frame for a rock effort since Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct launched at No.1 with 282,000 units on the list dated Dec. 20, 2016.
Further, Evolve sold 109,093 in traditional album sales — earning the rock group the top-selling album of the week, as it launched at No.1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of July 15, 2017)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.

Fans will hear hit songs like Montgomery Gentry’s rockin’, “Ain’t No Law Against That” and Lo Cash’s sexy “You Make It Look Good,” to The LACS “Outside of Town” f/Moonshine Bandits, JJ Lawhorn’s rebel anthem, “Last of A Dying Breed,” and a special remix of Colt Ford’s smash, “Outshine Me” f/Cypress Spring.

Country’s newest rising star, Devin Burris, is introduced on the new album with his catchy song, “Boom Boom.”

Billboard Hot Country Songs (Chart issue week of July 15, 2017)
On Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart - which blends:
a) All-format airplay, as monitored by BDS
b) Sales, as tracked by Nielsen SoundScan and
c) Streaming, (tracked by Nielsen BDS from such services as Spotify, Muve, Slacker, Rhapsody, Rdio and Xbox Music, among others) according to BDS it results in:

Sam Hunt with “Body Like a Back Road” (MCA Nashville) stretched its rule to 21 weeks at the summit, extending its mark for the longest reign by a soloist. It’s second overall only to Florida Georgia Line’s debut hit, “Cruise,” which dominated for 24 weeks in 2012-13.
“Body” also topped Country Streaming Songs (16.7 million U.S. streams, up 3 percent) and Country Digital Song Sales (49,000, up 4%) also for a 21st week each.
Further aiding the song’s domination is its success on Country Airplay, where it held at No.4 (37.2 million impressions, down less than 1%) and spends its 14th total week in the top five. Most notably, “Road” logged its eighth frame after ranking at No.1 for three weeks (May 6, 13 and 20). That eight-week stay in the top five following a No.1 run sets a new longevity record, surpassing Rascal Flatts’ 2006 hit “My Wish,” which led the tally dated Dec. 16, 2006, and remained in the top five for seven more frames.
What has been key to “Road” remaining in the Country Airplay top five for so long? Says KKBQ Houston program director Johnny Chiang, “In these days of every record label taking a turn at the top spot of the chart, claiming every song to be a hit, ‘Body’ really stands out. [It] really shows that [a major] hit song needs to be played, regardless of its chart position. It happens too many times that a song reaches No.1, followed by way too many stations dropping it too early.”

Dustin Lynch with “Small Town Boy” (Broken Bow) rose 13-10 on Hot Country Songs, becoming his sixth top 10. Helping the cause, “Boy” rumbled 19-15 for a new Country Airplay peak, surged 31% to 18.6 million impressions. It also gained by 2% to 6.2 million U.S. streams

Billboard Country Airplay (Chart issue week of July 15, 2017)

Blake Shelton with “Every Time I Hear That Song” (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) ascended 2-1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated July 15), increasing 8% to 46.4 million audience impressions in the tracking week ending July 2, according to Nielsen Music.
All I’ve ever wanted to be is a country singer, and having a No.1 song is thrilling,” Shelton told Billboard. “Thank you to the fans for supporting me and being part of this journey. And a special salute to the first responders and the servicemen and women, who allow us to celebrate freedom.”

Written by Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey, Brad Warren and Brett Warren, “Time” is the fourth country radio single from Shelton’s album IF I’M HONEST. It follows “A Guy With a Girl,” which began a three-week reign on the Country Airplay chart dated Jan. 28; the No. 7-peaking “She’s Got a Way With Words” (Sept. 10, 2016); and “Came Here to Forget,” which led the June 11, 2016, list.
Another track from If I’m Honest, the inspirational “Savior’s Shadow,” has not been promoted to country radio but became Shelton’s first charted title on Hot Christian Songs, reaching No. 14 in June 2016. Shelton has now linked two straight Country Airplay leaders after “Words” stopped at No.7; before that single, he had earned a record 17 consecutive No.1s (counting only officially promoted, non-seasonal singles), from 2010’s “Hillbilly Bone” (featuring Trace Adkins) through to “Forget.”

Cole Swindell collected his seventh top 10, as “Flatliner” (Warner Bros./Warner Music Nashville) climbed 13-9 (29.1 million in audience, up 12%)...Lady Antebellum landed its 13th Country Airplay top 10 and first since 2014, when “Bartender” became the trio’s ninth No. 1, as “You Look Good” (Capitol Nashville) pushed 11-10 (29 million, up 2%).
